And the verdict is...
Subluxation of the right patella.
I now have a knee brace (which is more of a full leg brace) and crutches-which I managed to lose my balance on before leaving the ER, fortunately not resulting in any further injuries.
At home now, elevating the knee with ice and watching episodes of How I Met Your Mother.
How it happened: from a squatting position, leaned over too far on the right knee, heard a 'pop' and then another 'pop' and then owwwwwwwwwwwwww!
