Thoughts and stuff

This Woman Is Supposed to Disgust You

For those who haven't seen it, it's a Brazilian ad campaign for fat-free yogurt. Because apparently men's preferences never change.

Well, some men's preferences anyways. My medically overweight self enjoys a very fulfilling love life. And I am pushing myself to make more efforts towards slimming down--not for any man's sake but for my own. I liked how I was feeling when I was walking more and pushing my body harder. And on the vainer side of things, I don't want to shop in the plus-sized department any more.

I don't like the ad. The implication that women lose weight to please men disturbs me. Yes, being fat isn't necesarily healthy. Want to win me over with an ad campaign? Show people of all shapes and sizes exercising, having fun, enjoying healthy love lives, etc. Let's stop with the "big is beautiful" and the "But Marilyn was a size 16!" (Not really) and go with the "healthy is beautiful and takes on many different forms". We all know that thin doesn't always equal healthy. Let's see ads with bigger women winning marathons, kicking ass and taking names.

om my gawd she is so beautiful!! I am going to go put more whip cream on my coffee now. Brazil is being goofy

She's fucking hot! Honestly, I thought that Mena Suvari looked disturbing in American Beauty.

I wear a size 18. I would like to be in better shape, but it's because I want to feel better. I look fine. Hell--as I learned a few months ago, my size 18 ass has a fan club. Nyeah nyeah.

Any man who needs me to loose weight so that he can feel attracted to me can go fuck himself--because he certainly won't be fucking me.

Low fat yogurt is gross.

Agreed on Mena. and a few other of the latest twiggy ones. If Keira Knightley loses any more, she'll look better on the crew of the damned.

Ally McBeal much?

Uh, men lose weight to please women, too. There's just insecurity all over the place whenever this topic comes up.

No one should lose weight to please another person. If you are going to lose weight, it should be in order to feel better in your skin and to improve your health. Most importantly, you should do it for yourself because you want to do it. Anything else, and you are pretty much doomed to gain it all back anyway.

Genuine internal motivation is the only thing that keeps the weight off.

Not pleasing another person as much as pleasing 'potential mates in general' - making yourself able to be more picky allows for better genetic pairings. :P

Hmmmm...

Based on the add campaign, it annoys me too.

Anything I do for my body has very little to do with pleasing men. Of course, I know that I'm harder on myself than most men.

But this goes into self-competition. I get obsessed with beating my own records. This goes with trying to be the best I can be. (and no, that is not a rack of bones. - that isn't my best, certainly!)

As for lowfat yogurt - screw it, give me fat free. I love it. Does it have fruit? I'm good to go if it does.

*shrugs* Some people like yogurt. I frankly like yogurt WAY more than chili cheese fries. (Yogurt is so fucking good - and seldom makes me feel bloated later!) Eat what you like. Be what you want.

I like fat free yogurt. Does that mean I drop weight to please men and does it make people who love full-fat yogurt fatties? hahaa, no.

Bluh. To hell with corporations. For every style body, there is someone who appreciates it. Thank gods!!!!

#1 lesson...

STOP COMPARING YOUR BODY, to everyone else's. That's really what I learned to become happy with me.

Random thought I'd like to share. I even notice Jim doing this to his own body.

(YES, men do it too.)
Sometimes it's about fat, sometimes it's about muscle.

(If she's dating him, maybe my belly isn't so bad.)
(Men that muscular never get picked on, no one messes with them) blahbalh.

Eh.

Blarg on humanity.
This is why I think the human race sucks. Sides. No one gave a fuck about body image when there was no food lying around. Famine anyone? Then we'd all shut the fuck up. And ya'll with the extra would be the happier ones.

Ack! The link doesn't work anymore! Any way you can fix it?

[identity profile] vixenesque93.livejournal.com 2007-06-20 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
It looks like it's been taken down. Phooey!

[identity profile] fearless-son.livejournal.com 2007-06-20 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It is back up now. It was not working for me either when I clicked it yesterday, but it did work this morning.

I find my mother to be the biggest critic of my body. She told me that it "breaks [her] heart how big [I've] gotten."

I am thinner than most of the people I know. -_-

Still, she is right in that I have gained weight in the last year or so, which is why I exercise. If I am at least showing effort in doing something about it then she has no right to complain and she knows it. Unfortunately, she wants me to have the body I had in high school, while I was still in puberty and on metabolism-affecting medications, which I hate to break to her is probably an unrealistic goal.

I don't know, I actually prefer the woman in that image over the movie-star orignal. I mean, look at that perfect skin! Nice smile, pretty eyes... and yes, she appears to be a woman you could actually wrap your arms around with out snapping her in two--that's a good thing!

I simply don't understand the human race today at all.
