honestly I think marital status is incedental. Marital status and value on making more money are both symptoms of a persons priorities. I mean - typically.
True...but there's a difference (to me) between wanting to "make more money" and "wanting to make enough money to cover the basics and maybe an occasional extra, and save for retirement/college/other personal development".
