Also, on reflection, I'm really fucking annoyed with modern pagans who claim "ZOMG the Christians stole Christmas from us!" No. No, they didn't. There is no unbroken line of relatively unscathed, unaltered paganism from Europe, which is where the Yule traditions came from. Nobody stole Christmas from 2,000 year old Wiccans. And much of what modern neopagans have is heavily flavored by being part of a culture that is significantly shaped by Christianity (among other contributing factors), so we're not exactly innocent of "theft". So quit bitching about how oppressed we are. We are not the same people, cultures or religions that were "taken from", and IMO to claim otherwise is a slap in the face of actual indigenous cultures extant today.

Date: 2009-12-29 01:32 pm (UTC)It also really annoys the "they stolllle iiiiit!!!" people if you point out how much of Christianity is written smack over the top of Judaism. Pagans will *never* win the gold at the "hey Christianity, you stole our ___!" Olympics. :P
