Okay, no seriously... sometimes people do things, and we get so caught up in the politics of it, we forget they're still people. :/ I mean... I KNOW some of the UBER-agressive people who scare me the most are really just people, and I honestly don't CARE they might need a hug... I'm scared shitless to think I might be mugged by one...
...but as they try to teach in MANY defensive martial-arts, sometimes "disarming" a person who is acting violently, is MOST easily done with compassion and understanding.
While I was in college and training to become a police officer (which I never finished- that's another story) I was working part time as a security officer... and I /often/ diffused people by addressing THEM instead of the act they were engaged in.
It's still a WTF story/situation, I admit... but it's not /shocking/ to me. It's like... welcome to the REAL world, that the media doesn't usually cover. :P
